Opus Bar street party celebrates $10,000 donation
to Rainforest Foundation
(VANCOUVER, Canada) - Vancouver's Opus Bar is donating
$10,000 to the international Rainforest Foundation founded
by rock star Sting and his wife Trudie Styler.
"At a time when the eyes of the world are focused on
world poverty as well as the challenges faced by the
environment, the Rainforest Foundation funds and directs
projects around the world in countries inhabited by
millions of people living in rainforests whose livelihoods
and cultures depend on the natural environment," said
John deC.Evans, president and CEO of Trilogy Properties
Corp.
"It is our desire to be more environmentally sensitive
at a global level. In some small way, the donation from
the Opus Foundation, created by the owners of Opus Hotel,
will enable the work of the Rainforest Foundation to
continue."
To raise awareness of the foundation's projects, a Brasilia
street party outside the Yaletown boutique hotel will
be held July 29 hosted by honorary patron Trudie Styler
and attended by international and local celebrities.
It is a private invite only event.
Mr. Evans said he hopes the celebration will prompt
others to donate to the foundation.
The mission of the Rainforest Foundation, which has
sister organizations in the U.K. and Norway, is to support
indigenous and traditional populations of the rainforests
in Brazil, Columbia, Ecuador, Guyana and Suriname, helping
them to protect their environment and fulfill their
rights.
