Nearly 28,000 CondŽ Nast Traveler subscribers filled out our 2005 Readers' Choice Poll, divining the planet's finest hotels, resorts, and cruise lines. In this, our twelfth annual Gold List, we fleshed out the figures-the highest ever across the board-by interviewing respondents for their insights on check-in, checkout, and everything in between.

Opus Hotel, This "hip, cutting edge, brick Yaletown hot spot" attracts travelers with its minimlist lines and Japanese courtyard. Sleek, large-windowed rooms come in five themes, from Tony & Traditional to Daring & Dramatic. The Opus Bar pulses after dark with "fashionistas and celebrities"; the French brasserie elixir serves breakfast and nightcaps. An online concierge service recommends places to visit, while flesh-and-blood staff "take care of every need."
