20 Great Escapes
By Kasey Wilson, Vancouver Magazine - May, 2003
#14. Opus Hotel, Vancouver
The city's new brick, granite and glass Opus in Yaletown
is already the stuff of sex and society column legends.
The bold designs in this boutique hotel are loosely
themed around five fictitious personalities, from “Bob
& Carol,” inspired by the ’60s couple-swapping
filmic farce, to “Dede,” an actress who
loves animal prints and fake fur. All rooms and suites
feature spa bathrooms, luxurious European bathroom toiletries
and ultraplush Frette robes. Courtyard rooms overlook
a rooftop garden, while penthouse suites boast double-sided
fireplaces and plasma-screen TVs. Pseudo-voyeurists/exhibitionists
should request a room that overlooks the street: bathrooms
have floor-to-ceiling windows and blinds that allow
you to see out while masking the view in. 322 Davie
St., Vancouver. 866-642-6787. Opushotel.com. Where to
Eat: Elixir Bar & Restaurant. What's the Deal: From
$379 to $1,500.
