Opus Hotel Vancouver
You'd almost expect two check-in lines - voyeur and
exhibitionist - at this pretty new boutique confection
in racy Yaletown. The colourful, luxe rooms and suites,
designed by Vancouver-based Architectura, are divided
into décor themes ranging from coastal masculine
to L.A. movie producer. Rooms are flooded with natural
light and crackle with modern electronics. It's a scene
- from the lozenge-coloured low-rider furniture in the
lobby bar to the crush at Elixir Bar and Restaurant.
Rates $179-$299.
Elixir Bar and Restaurant
Chefs Don Letendre and Frédéric Desbiens
offer a skilled turn on modern brasserie food in plates
such as frisée salad with bacon, topped with
a soft-poached egg, and nightly braised specials such
as coq au vin. Delicious desserts, ditto the staff.
Breakfasts and brunches are equally great and the scrambled
eggs are the city's best.
