Great piece. I think it's important however to single out smaller hotels as different dynamics for some of these trends. The automation, for instance: small, boutique hotels have a huge advantage in that they can afford to respond more intimately to inquiries: their charm (much like their ambiance) is personal and non-mechanic.

One other trend I'd add to the list is reliance on review sites like Trip Advisor. More and more, TA is becoming the gold standard in online hotel reputation: not #1 on TA? You're not #1 at all. Kinda sad but true.

Hi Bob, Opus has had complimentary bikes for guests for several years now and they're a huge hit. Travelers love access to bikes, assuming the location is conducive. One obstacle will be that some hoteliers would worry about liability - we're really good at that. But it's a healthy, "green" option, and you should do well. Best of success to you!

Hello Mr Craig,
I'm in the grass root stages of creating a business Concept paper, for bike rentals as an on site amenity for hotels and motels.I'm in flordia, where biking is becoming more and more popular, and fitness is also more of a priority for people even while on vacation. How do you think this concept will be recieved by the hotel industry,do you think this concept will help hotels draw customers to thier establishment?
Thanks,
Bob Baxter
